The Ahlgren’s Bilar Saltlakrits is delicious and perfectly sweet. Each bright yellow bag is labelled with the text “Bilar” – a very familiar design to all Swedes and with its fun car-shaped contents it truly speaks to your inner child. Each car is coated with a layer of salt lakrits (salty licorice) that sits on top of licorice flavoured candy. The experience is powerful and long lasting, thanks to these chewy sweets. Ahlgren’s Bilar has been around for a whopping 60 years now and have a rather unique story. Many years’ ago, Ahlgren’s candy factory in Gävle began working on a new marshmallow to be produced. The year was 1953, and their project had taken a rather unexpected turn – instead of marshmallows the product that came out was a small, slightly car shaped treat that tasted fantastic! The manufacturers’ decided to keep this new car and even maintained the different colours of green, white and pink. A few years later its brothers’ and sisters’ were born, and now there are many types to choose from such as the saltlakrits.
